Situated on the planet Strophios, this facility is one of a number of Jupiter Empire controlled academies dedicated to the study and use of Extrasensory Perception, or Psychic Powers. Of them all, however, Griedhurst has been known as the best among its kind, at least until their greatest project went awry. Since then, in order to continue to prove their worth, the academy has begun practicing far harsher and more invasive research and training methods.
Areas Of Study[]
The following psychic phenomenon have been recorded, studied and arranged into categories. Individual talent always presents a certain measure of unique approach, but generally speaking a great many 'gifts' can be assigned to one of the following areas of study. A subject can only truly be called an Adept Psychic if they display an ability that falls into one of such categories, but more promising students tend to display several abilities across multiple categories.
- Enhancement
Using one's own psychic energy to enhance abilities already present within the body or other physical objects - heightened senses, hardening of tools, greater body strength are among common feats, while being able to increase the elasticity of limbs or being able to turn invisible are examples of extraordinary talent.
- Emission
Creating or projecting something using psychic energy, either in sharp bursts or carefully controlled manipulation. This can range from simple 'psychic blasts' to careful tekekinetic control of objects from afar, or from the projection of an object to the projection of even one's own 'spiritual self'.
- Transmutation
The ability to alter ones own psychic energy into another kind of energy, typically associated with Pyro/Cryo/Electrokinesis, but has the potential to take other forms. While they may have similarities to Emitter type abilities, Transmuter types start from a fundamentally different base than standard Psychic energy.
- Manipulation
Manipulators are associated with skills like Technopathy, the ability to communicate with or control other creatures (including other subjects to a degree), and reading the thoughts of others. Abilities typically involve affecting/altering already-active psychic or electrical fields with the subject's own.
- Divination
The act of looking beyond reality as it stands, whether through time or into other forms of dimensional existence. The simplest variants fall into skills like basic Prophecy, or determining the outcome of luck-based games, whereas talented individuals manage to utilise the existence of Parallel Universes to their own ends.
- Specialist
A psychic ability that falls into none of these categories, usually a uniquely potent but highly specialised skill that on occasion cannot be easily measured by current understandings of science and physics. One specialist ability that has seen multiple instances is Teleportation, but even within that grouping the subjects vary greatly.
